Window Treatment Ideas for Large Windows

Large windows can present a unique challenge to homeowners when it comes to choosing window treatments.  While they can provide an unparalleled view of the great outdoors, they can also provide unparalleled difficulty in finding and fitting window coverings.  Many of the more common window treatments simply do not work on such a large scale.  Large windows deserve their own consideration when it comes to coverings.  If you are looking for window treatments for a large window, there are four main options available to you.

1. Vertical blinds – Vertical blinds are a very popular choice for large window treatments.  Thankfully, time has greatly improved these versatile window coverings.  No longer is the customer restricted to vinyl blinds, vertical blinds now come in a wide variety of materials and colors.  This variety has helped give vertical blinds a versatility and elegance preciously unknown to the style.
2. Panel track blinds – A newer option available for large window coverings is the panel track blinds.  These blinds function in a similar fashion to vertical blinds.  Panels are placed upon a track and can be extended or retracted based upon your current needs.  The difference between vertical blinds and panel track blinds is the size of the covering.  Panel track blinds, as the name implies, are a series of wider panels rather than narrow blinds.

3. Drapes – The most commonly known treatment for large windows is, of course, draperies.  With the wide variety of color and style, drapes have always been a versatile option for large windows. Combine them and layer them with other window treatments, like vertical blinds, and you have many options to complete your decor.

4. Shades – Depending on the size, shape and placement of your window, you may have access to a variety of shades, including sheer shades, roman shades, cellular shades and pleated shades. With hundreds of styles, colors and options, you can create any look you choose. For example, how about the versatile sheer shade? Sheer shades have the functionality of two blinds in one. While open, a sheer fabric covers the vanes, allowing light to seep in through the sheer colored fabric. When closed, the vanes offer gentle light control. A perfect solution for any window in your home.
